1 Samuel 9:23-24: The Anointing of Saul
In the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 9, verses 23-24, we find a pivotal moment in the history of Israel. It is here that Saul, the son of Kish, is anointed by Samuel to become the first king of Israel.
The Context
At this point in Israel's history, the people had been begging for a king, wanting to be like the other nations around them. God had reluctantly agreed to their demands, but warned them that having a king would bring its own set of problems.
