1 Timothy 4 AMP
False Teachers and the Last Days
In 1 Timothy 4, Paul writes to Timothy, his spiritual son, to warn him about the dangers of false teachers and the Last Days.
The Latter Days
The apostle Paul explains that in the latter times, some will depart from the faith and give attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons. (1 Timothy 4:1)
The Characteristics of False Teachers
Paul describes these false teachers as having a seared conscience, speaking lies in hypocrisy, and forbidding people to marry and commanding them to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. (1 Timothy 4:2-3)
The Importance of God's Creation
Paul emphasizes that everything created by God is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:4-5)
A Good Minister of Jesus Christ
Paul encourages Timothy to be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of good doctrine which he has carefully followed. (1 Timothy 4:6)
Exercise and Spiritual Growth
The apostle Paul advises Timothy to reject profane and old wives' fables and to exercise himself in godliness, for physical exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable in all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. (1 Timothy 4:7-8)
Be an Example to the Believers
Finally, Paul exhorts Timothy to be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity, and to take heed to himself and to the doctrine, continuing in them, for in doing so, he will save both himself and those who hear him. (1 Timothy 4:9-16)
