1 Samuel 8:4-5: A Call for a King

A Call for a King
"and said to him, 'Behold, you are old and your sons do not follow in your ways; now appoint for us a king to govern us like all the nations'" (1 Samuel 8:5). The people's request is straightforward: they want a king, just like the surrounding nations. They are not satisfied with the current system of judges, which they believe has failed them. They want a king to govern them, to provide stability and security, and to lead them to victory in battles.
