1 Samuel 1 Ayat 9-28

1 Samuel 1:9-28: The Prayer of Hannah

Hannah, a childless woman, was deeply troubled by her inability to conceive. She was one of the two wives of Elkanah, and her rival, Peninnah, often provoked her by flaunting her own fertility. Every year, Elkanah would take his family to Shiloh to offer sacrifices to the Lord. However, Hannah's pain and distress only intensified during these times, as she was reminded of her own barrenness.

Hannah's Prayer

One year, Hannah decided to take matters into her own hands. She rose from the table, leaving the festive meal unfinished, and went to the temple to pray. She was so desperate that she wept bitterly, pouring out her heart to the Lord.

Hannah's Vow

Hannah made a vow to the Lord, saying:

"O Lord Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head."

(Hannah's vow, 1 Samuel 1:11)

Hannah's prayer was so intense that Eli, the high priest, observed her lips moving but heard no sound. He mistakenly thought she was drunk and rebuked her. However, Hannah explained her situation and her vow, and Eli, recognizing her sincerity, blessed her and sent her away with a promise that her prayer would be answered.

God's Answer

In time, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son, whom she named Samuel, meaning "heard by God." Hannah kept her vow, and when Samuel was weaned, she took him to the temple to dedicate him to the Lord's service.

Hannah's Song

In gratitude, Hannah sang a song of praise, exalting the Lord's power and justice. Her song echoed the Messiah's teachings and prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ.

"My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God." (Hannah's song, 1 Samuel 2:1-2)

Hannah's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of faith, perseverance, and obedience. Her prayer and vow demonstrate the effectiveness of fervent prayer and the faithfulness of God in answering our deepest desires.
