Hannah's Faith and Prayer
1 Samuel 1:9-11
Hannah, the wife of Elkanah, was a woman of great faith. She was barren, and this had caused her great distress. Every year, Elkanah would take his family to Shiloh to offer sacrifices and pray to God. During one of these visits, Hannah went to the temple and prayed to God, weeping bitterly. She made a vow to God, promising that if He would give her a son, she would dedicate him to His service.
1 Samuel 1:12-16
Eli, the priest, saw Hannah praying and thought she was drunk. But Hannah explained to him that she was praying out of deep sadness and desperation. Eli was moved by her words and blessed her, saying "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."
The Birth of Samuel
1 Samuel 1:17-20
Hannah's prayer was heard, and she conceived a son. She named him Samuel, which means "heard by God." When Samuel was weaned, Hannah took him to the temple and presented him to Eli, just as she had promised. She left Samuel in Eli's care, and he became a servant of God.
