Combining Numbers

To form numbers between 20 and 99, you combine the tens number with the units number. For example:

  • 21: واحد وعشرون (waahid wa 'ishroon)
  • 53: ثلاثة وخمسون (thalaatha wa khamsoon)
  • 87: سبعة وثمانون (sab'a wa thamanon)

You can see that "wa" (and) is used to connect the tens and units numbers.

Note:

  • The number "two" (اثنان) takes a special form when used in combination with "ten" or "eleven" as seen in twelve (اثنا عشر)
  • The number "one" (واحد) changes form when used with "ten" and becomes "أحد" (ahad).
  • For numbers above one hundred, you use the word "مئتان" (mi'taan) for two hundred, "ثلاثمائة" (thalath ma'a) for three hundred, and so on.

This guide will help you understand how Arabic numbers from one to one hundred are written in words.
