Activity 13: Exploring the World of Idioms

Objective: To understand and use common idioms in everyday conversations.

Materials:

  • Textbook

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes)

    • Begin by asking students if they know what an idiom is.
    • Discuss the definition of an idiom and provide some examples.
    • Explain that idioms are phrases that have a figurative meaning different from the literal meaning of the words.
  2. Understanding Idioms (15 minutes)

    • Divide students into pairs or small groups.
    • Give each group a list of common idioms with their literal and figurative meanings.
    • Ask students to match the idioms with their correct meanings.
    • Encourage discussion and collaboration.
  3. Using Idioms (15 minutes)

    • Distribute a worksheet with sentences containing idioms.

  4. Application (10 minutes)
