13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

A Heroic True Story

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is a 2016 American biographical war film directed by Michael Bay. The movie is based on the 2013 book "13 Hours" by Mitchell Zuckoff, which tells the true story of the 2012 Benghazi attack.

The Plot

The film follows the story of a group of CIA contractors who are stationed in Benghazi, Libya. The team, consisting of six members, is responsible for providing security services to the CIA station in the city. On September 11, 2012, the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi comes under attack by a group of Islamist militants.

The Brave Six

The six contractors, known as the Annex Security Team, are:

  • Tyrone "Rone" Woods (played by John Krasinski), a former Navy SEAL and the team leader.
  • Jack Silva (played by John Badge Dale), a former Army Ranger and Rone's right-hand man.
  • Mark "Oz" Geist (played by Max Martini), a former Marine and the team's sniper.
  • Kris "Tanto" Paronto (played by Pablo Schreiber), a former Army Ranger and the team's medic.
  • Dave "Boon" Benton (played by David Denman), a former Marine and the team's communications expert.
  • John "Tig" Tiegen (played by Dominic Fumusa), a former Marine and the team's intelligence expert.

The Attack

When the compound is attacked, the six contractors spring into action to defend the Americans trapped inside. Despite being vastly outnumbered, they fight bravely to hold off the attackers and wait for reinforcements to arrive. Meanwhile, the CIA station chief, Bob (played by David Costabile), and his team are slow to respond to the attack, further complicating the situation.

The Aftermath

The attack results in the deaths of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. The remaining survivors, including the six contractors, are left to fend for themselves until they can be rescued. The film ends with the contractors being evacuated from Benghazi, but not before they reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of their fallen comrades.

A Tribute to Heroes

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is a tribute to the bravery and selflessness of the six contractors who fought to protect their fellow Americans in Benghazi. The film is an intense and gripping portrayal of the events of that fateful night, and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve in the military and intelligence communities.
