Dalam bahasa Inggris, voice (suara) adalah cara untuk menjelaskan bagaimana subjek dalam kalimat berpartisipasi dalam aksi. Ada dua jenis voice, yaitu active voice dan passive voice. Active Voice
Dalam kalimat active voice, subjek melakukan aksi. Contoh:
1. The dog bites the man.
Pada contoh di atas, "the dog" adalah subjek yang melakukan aksi "bites" kepada "the man".
2. She writes a letter.
Pada contoh ini, "she" adalah subjek yang melakukan aksi "writes" dan "a letter" adalah objek yang dikerjakan.
Passive Voice
Dalam kalimat passive voice, subjek menerima aksi. Contoh:
3. The man was bitten by the dog.
Pada contoh di atas, "the man" adalah subjek yang menerima aksi "was bitten" oleh "the dog".
4. A letter is written by her.
Pada contoh ini, "a letter" adalah subjek yang menerima aksi "is written" oleh "her".
5. The new employee was trained by the manager.
Pada contoh ini, "the new employee" adalah subjek yang menerima aksi "was trained" oleh "the manager".
6. The package was delivered yesterday.
Pada contoh ini, "the package" adalah subjek yang menerima aksi "was delivered" pada "yesterday".
Perbedaan Active dan Passive Voice
7. Active: The teacher grades the papers. vs Passive: The papers are graded by the teacher.
8. Active: The company will launch a new product. vs Passive: A new product will be launched by the company.
9. Active: The storm destroyed the house. vs Passive: The house was destroyed by the storm.
