King David: A Young Musician with a Big Heart

Kindergottesdienst: 1 Samuel 16:14-23

In this Bible story, we're going to talk about a special person named David, who becomes a very important person in the Bible. But first, let's set the scene...

The Problem with King Saul

King Saul was the first king of Israel, but he did not obey God's commands. Because of this, God was very unhappy with King Saul. God decided to look for a new king, someone who would obey Him and follow His commands.

The Search for a New King

God sent the prophet Samuel to look for a new king. Samuel went to the house of Jesse, who had eight sons. One by one, Samuel looked at each of Jesse's sons, but God did not choose any of them.

Enter David, the Young Musician

Finally, Samuel asked Jesse if he had any other sons. Jesse said, "Oh, yes! I have one more son, David, but he's just a young boy who takes care of my sheep." Samuel said, "Bring him to me!" And when David arrived, God said, "This is the one! Anoint him as the new king!"

David's Special Gift

But there's something special about David. He was a talented musician! He could play the lyre (a stringed instrument) beautifully. When King Saul was feeling sad or worried, David's music would calm him down and make him feel better.

The Spirit of God Leaves King Saul

After God rejected King Saul, the Spirit of God left him. This means that God was no longer with King Saul, and King Saul was no longer happy or peaceful. Instead, an evil spirit would come and trouble him.

David's Music Saves the Day!

Whenever the evil spirit came to King Saul, David would take out his lyre and play calming music. This would soothe King Saul's troubled heart, and the evil spirit would leave him. King Saul loved David's music and would ask him to play for him whenever he felt troubled.

What Can We Learn from This Story?

We can learn that God is always looking for people who will obey Him and follow His commands. We can also learn that our talents and gifts, like David's music, can be used to bless others and make them feel better.

Conclusion

In this story, we meet David, a young musician with a big heart, who becomes the chosen one to be the next king of Israel. We see how God is always looking for people who will follow Him, and how our talents and gifts can be used to bless others.
