The Amalekites Attack Ziklag
In 1 Samuel 30:7, we read about the devastating attack of the Amalekites on Ziklag, a city in Judah where David and his men had taken refuge.
The Situation
After being rejected by King Saul, David had fled to the land of the Philistines, where he was given the city of Ziklag as a refuge by Achish, the king of Gath (1 Samuel 27:6). David and his 600 men had settled in Ziklag, and it was here that they had left their families and possessions.
