Interpretation
This prophecy is a pronouncement of judgment against the house of Eli, which was corrupt and sinful. The phrase "I will cut off your arm" means to destroy or bring an end to Eli's family line. The phrase "there will not be an old man in your house" indicates that Eli's family will be cut off, and there will be no elderly men left to carry on the family name.

Fulfillment

- The Philistines did capture the ark of the covenant, and it was taken to the temple of Dagon in Ashdod (1 Samuel 5:1-7).
- The line of Eli was eventually replaced by the line of Zadok, who became the high priest during the time of King Solomon (1 Kings 1:32-40).
