Samuel, obeying God's command, arrived in Bethlehem and invited Jesse and his sons to a sacrificial feast. Samuel met seven of Jesse's sons, but God rejected each of them, saying, "The Lord has not chosen any of these" (1 Samuel 16:10).

David, the youngest son, was out tending the sheep. When Jesse presented his sons to Samuel, God rejected them all, saying, "The Lord has not chosen any of these" (1 Samuel 16:10). Finally, Samuel asked if Jesse had any other sons, and Jesse introduced David, the smallest and youngest of his sons.
