Hannah's Prayer and Samuel's Birth

Hannah's Barrenness (1-5)

Hannah, the wife of Elkanah, was barren. Elkanah, who lived in Ramathaim-zophim, had two wives: Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah was childless. Every year, Elkanah would take his family to Shiloh to offer sacrifices to the Lord. During these visits, Peninnah would taunt Hannah, making her feel sad and frustrated.

Hannah's Prayer (6-11)

One year, Hannah reached her limit. She wept bitterly and prayed to the Lord, vowing that if God gave her a son, she would dedicate him to His service. Eli, the priest, saw Hannah praying and thought she was drunk. But Hannah explained her situation and her vow. Eli blessed her and told her that God would grant her request.

Samuel's Birth (12-20)

After that, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son, whom she named Samuel, which means "heard by God." When Samuel was weaned, Hannah took him to the temple and presented him to Eli. She explained that she had promised to dedicate Samuel to the Lord's service if God gave her a son. Eli accepted Samuel and blessed Hannah, who returned home with her husband.
