1 Samuel 30:1-6

David's Victory Over the Amalekites

The Amalekites Attack Ziklag

1 When David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day, they found that the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it down. 2 They had taken the women and all who were there, both young and old. They didn't kill anyone, but carried them off and went on their way.

David Pursues the Amalekites

3 When David and his men came to the town, they found it burned down. Their wives, sons, and daughters were gone. 4 David and his men wept until they could weep no more.

Seeking God's Guidance

5 Then David's two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel, had been taken captive. 6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking about stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters.

In this passage, we see David and his men returning to Ziklag, only to find that the Amalekites had raided and burned the town, taking their wives and children captive. David and his men are devastated by this news, and David seeks God's guidance on what to do next. We will see in the next passage how David's faith and trust in God will lead him to pursue the Amalekites and rescue their loved ones.
