Humble Yourselves Under God's Mighty Hand

1 Peter 5:6-10 NLT

In this passage, Peter continues to encourage believers to live a life of humility and trust in God, especially in times of suffering and persecution.

Humble Yourselves

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Peter emphasizes the importance of humility in the life of a believer. He encourages them to humble themselves under God's mighty hand, acknowledging God's sovereignty and power over their lives. This is not a call to self-deprecation or self-pity, but rather a recognition of God's greatness and our dependence on Him.

Casting All Your Cares

7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

In verse 7, Peter reminds believers that they can cast all their anxieties on God because He cares for them. This is not a call to worry or be anxious, but rather to acknowledge that God is concerned about our well-being and desires to care for us.

Be Self-Controlled and Alert

8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

In verse 8, Peter warns believers to be self-controlled and alert, recognizing that their enemy, the devil, is constantly seeking to devour them. This is a call to spiritual vigilance, recognizing that Satan is a cunning and powerful foe.

Resist the Devil

9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

In verse 9, Peter encourages believers to resist the devil, standing firm in their faith. He reminds them that they are not alone in their sufferings, but rather, they are part of a larger family of believers who are undergoing similar trials.

And the God of All Grace

10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Finally, in verse 10, Peter reminds believers that the God of all grace, who has called them to eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore and strengthen them after they have suffered a little while. This is a promise of hope and comfort in the midst of trials and suffering.
