Hope in God's Salvation

1 Peter 1:13-25 Sermon Outline

I. Introduction (v. 13-16)

  • Prepare Your Minds for Action: Peter calls believers to prepare their minds for action, to be serious and sober-minded, and to set their hope fully on the grace to be brought to them when Jesus Christ is revealed.
  • A Living Hope: Our hope is not based on temporary things, but on the eternal and living God.

II. Conduct in the Light of Salvation (v. 17-21)

  • Conduct Yourselves in Fear: As aliens and strangers in this world, we are to conduct ourselves in fear, honoring God in all we do.
  • Redeemed by the Precious Blood of Christ: We are not redeemed with perishable things, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot.

III. Living as Strangers in the World (v. 22-25)

  • Purify Your Souls: We are to purify our souls in obedience to the truth, and having sincere love for the brothers, love one another fervently from the heart.
  • The Living and Enduring Word of God: The word of God, which was preached to us, is the imperishable seed that will live and endure forever.

Application

  • As believers, we are called to live in the light of our salvation, with our hope set on the grace to be brought to us when Jesus Christ is revealed.
  • We are to conduct ourselves in fear, honoring God in all we do, and living as strangers in the world.
  • May we purify our souls in obedience to the truth, and love one another fervently from the heart.

Conclusion

  • May we set our hope fully on the grace to be brought to us when Jesus Christ is revealed, and live accordingly, as aliens and strangers in this world.
