I Corinthians 3:6-8 KJV: The Foundation of God's Building

In the book of 1 Corinthians, chapter 3, verses 6-8, the Apostle Paul writes:

**I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7, KJV)

**Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. (1 Corinthians 3:8, KJV)

In this passage, Paul addresses the Corinthian church's division and strife, which was caused by their factionalism and idolization of human leaders. He reminds them that the true builder of God's church is not human, but God himself.

The Foundation of God's Building

Paul uses the analogy of a building to describe the work of God in the church. He and Apollos are like farmers who plant and water, but God gives the increase. This means that God is the one who causes the church to grow and flourish, not human effort or charisma.

In this context, Paul emphasizes that both he and Apollos are mere servants of God, playing their part in the building process. Their roles are distinct, but equally important, just like a farmer who plants and another who waters. However, it is God who gives the growth, and ultimately, it is God who receives the glory.

United in Service

Paul also reminds the Corinthians that he and Apollos are one in their service to God. Despite their different roles, they are united in their purpose to build up the church. This unity is essential, for it is only when believers work together in harmony that God's kingdom can advance.

Reward According to Labour

In the final verse, Paul emphasizes that each person will receive their reward according to their own labour. This is a reminder that our works will be judged by God, and we will be rewarded or punished accordingly. However, this verse also implies that our labour is not in vain, for God will recognize and reward our efforts in building up his church.

In conclusion, 1 Corinthians 3:6-8 reminds us that God is the ultimate builder of his church, and we are mere servants who play our part in the building process. May we be united in our service to God, recognizing that it is he who gives the increase, and that our labour will be rewarded according to our efforts.
